Well, sociology might not know yet where and exactly when its annual meetings will be, but they won’t be held in the last week of December in Boston, like other professional associations one could name (HT: Kieran).

    I never understood why you’d have an academic conference in December. It has to the single most inconvenient time of the year to leave behind family and friends for career purposes.

    Actually, the rumor I’ve heard is that it does date back to when philosophical men appreciated the chance to escape their families for a while mid-holiday.

    Apocryphal, but knowing philosophy, possibly true.

    Yes, it was pretty embarrassing how Boston basically shut down last week. We’re losing our touch.
