behold, the interruptron

At the risk of becoming the first Internets Anonymous blog, I thought that all those of you out there who feel like your habits are getting out of hand might like this useful tool to monitor your focus: the interruptron.

It’s just a neato little gadget that lets you monitor when you’re working on task and when your attention drifts away (the name seems to suppose that others are interrupting you, but I think we all know that you are the biggest interrupter you’ve got to deal with).

That’s awesome. Thanks! I’ve been tracking my time a bit like that in excel, but that looks like a much easier tool. I just read the book that advises you to brainwash yourself to get back to work and it had a strong emphasis on tracking interruptions (and training yourself not to lose focus), too.

Is it too honest to admit that I would actually use this tool TO procrastinate, rather than to avoid it?

Statements about how sometimes people interrupt their work *as much as every 10 minutes* makes me feel like my brain is some kind of alien being. My brain is constantly cycling through things like the way the eye saccades.

I wrote a good chunk of my book on the (10+2)*5 plan, so I am with you in having difficulty sustaining focus.
